Colour Anodising provides depth and variety of colour with that brilliant metallic lustre. If colour is critical in your project the following should be considered in order to achieve the best possible results.

Colour Selection
There are several different processes which can be undertaken to achieve the desired finish and colour of anodised aluminium. When specifying a finish it is essential that you consider the application, whether it is internal or external.

There are a wide range of colours available for Anodising, individual finishers may specialise in particular shades or offer a range. Please note that not ALL colours are available for external applications.

When specifying a colour it is wise to check with a listed finisher early in the process in order to design the best finish for the application.

Texture Choice
Anodising can provide a variety of textures from mechanically polished to heavily etched giving that extra dimension to a project.

As with any textured surface the same colour will vary depending on texture so it is wise to consult a listed finisher for samples prior to selection.

Alloy Choice
Aluminium alloys and the quality can have a significant impact on the finish and colour of anodised product.

When specifying a critical colour consideration should be given to the alloy, especially if selecting a colour from a sample swatch. Typical aluminium alloys as detailed in AS/NZS 1734, AS/NZS 1865-1867 are:
1. Sheet - 5005, 5251
2. Extrusion - 6060, 6106, 6063

Variation in the same colour on the same alloy can also occur due to difference in thickness or shape of the aluminium. Some of the typical examples of this would be sheet product versus extrusions.

When tendering a project it is recommended to utilise one of alloy supplier and one listed finisher to ensure quality, constancy and responsibility.
