In order to receive the product you desire, you must specify the finishing correctly to avoid disappointment.

For instance an aluminium shopfront to be installed in a coastal location will need a totally different specification from the same shopfront to be installed in an inland country town due to the atmospheric conditions of each location.

Please follow the following important steps to ensure success.

1. Always specify from a sample provided by a member of Anodisers Association of Australasia which should state the following:
2. Specify the alloy of the aluminium you wish to anodise.
eg Aluminium extrusion will generally be 6060T5 or 6063T5
eg Aluminium sheet will generally be 5005
The above alloys are examples of standard international gradings of aluminium type alloys.
3. Specify the finish
Matt - anodised aluminium with a low specular reflectance
Bright - anodised aluminium with a soft bright to high specular reflectance
Polishing - a mechanical pre treatment to remove minor scuffing and die lines
Linishing - a mechanical treatment to provide a brushed finish to the aluminium
4. Specify the colour or name of the finish you require and the Anodiser providing the finish to make it easier to source.
5. Specify the coating thickness required, according to the Australian Standard AS 1231-2000

Specification Example for Coastal Location
All aluminium is to be finished in Matt Clear - AA25 performed by X Finishing Company and to conform with AS/NZS1231-2000

Specification Example for Inland Country Location
All aluminium is to be finished in Matt Clear - AA15 performed by X Finishing Company and to conform with AS/NZS1231-2000

Specification for Indoor Pool Constructions
The Anodisers Association of Australasia recommends treating an indoor swimming pool environment as a severe environment. We recommend AA25 (25 microns), which is the maximum thickness coating that is commercially available.
Even with AA25, the frequency of cleaning should be every 3 to 6 months.

Please note: For further information on particular products contact a member on the members list handling the product you wish to specify.
